1) Tomorrow (Feb. 2) is not only Groundhog Day, but also the 100th day of school. Students will be celebrating by rotating through each first grade class throughout the day. Students will be participating in many different 100th day activities. It will be a lot of fun! Be sure to ask them about it after school.
2) In celebration of the 100th day of school, a math 120s chart and activities were sent home in this week's homework in place of Exemplars.
3) In order to build fluency in math facts, students will be doing weekly timed tests. It is important that students memorize their facts rather than using their fingers. You will see their first test sent home this week. It focuses on doubles and tens addition facts. Students will be required to complete 1 page of problems correctly in 2 minutes. Please practice at home with them.
4) We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday, February 12. If your child would like to bring Valentines to pass out, please be sure that they bring one for every student in our class. We have 22 students. It is easiest to pass out if students just sign their name and leave the "To" blank on the Valentine. Although not necessary, students may attach 1 small piece of nut-free candy or chocolate.
Thank you! :)
